Mac ads UK

I spotted a poster advertising the Apple UK ads, starring Mitchell and Webb last night while travelling back through the tube. So I checked it out today. By coincidence, Andy Clarke has commented. I think Andy misses the point when he says they “don’t feel the same”. Although there’ll be some Apple corporate-types pushing for a re-make of the American ads (you can see that in the style of some of these ads, some really don’t work – ‘Restarting’ for eample, looks like a complete sell out) they’ve been allowed to shine in others. The better ads include a bit of their distinctive humour, i.e Tentacle, Pie Chart (“shenanegans tom-foolery… high-jinks”).

I look forward to more of the same. Andy’s right, they shouldn’t port the US ads to the UK and expect the humour to work, they shouldn’t be trying to make it the same, Mitchell and Webb need to carry on trying to make it their own.

Update 26 February 2008: Just reviewing and found this again. Yeah, they were good at first, but then they became annoying quite quickly, I still don’t (so much) blame Mitchell and Webb for that.

  1. I suppose it might have helped me to know who Mitchell and Webb are and what they have done before. But since I don’t watch TV I think I missed ‘em ;)

  2. Andy, sorry I didn’t reply before now (I think at the time I was too busy jumping around the room exclaiming to my bemused relatives that a web aficionado such as yourself had even looked at my site, let alone taken the time to post). Suffice to say I’m more inclined to agree with you these days. I’m actually glad the ads have been taken off air, if only to save the reputations of all involved. Still, nuff respect to the M&W and Apple massifs ;) hehe.
