work
The following are a few of the projects I have worked on recently that I believe show different aspects of my abilities. I will add to this section over time.
Ikea Idea
http://www.nicksmith.co.uk/ikea/
Completed January ‘08
A page to show my coding skills and my ability to convert a static design into a web page. This design uses a page from the current Ikea (printed) catalogue.
The Greenwich Natural Health Centre
http://www.greenwichnaturalhealth.co.uk
Completed July ‘07
Background Info
The Greenwich Natural Health Centre is an established complementary health centre based in Greenwich (London, UK). I have been the webmaster for this site since it’s creation in 1997 and this recent work represents a major refresh.
Aims of the Site Refresh
- Promote The Centre by aiming to improve site search rankings and look & feel.
- Using an uncluttered and logical format, convey the large amount of detailed information available about The Centre, including practitioners and the therapies they offer, as well as contact information.
- Incorporate a new logo and align the design with a revised visual identity now used throughout The Centre’s signage and printed material.
- Improve the information architecture, implement semantic coding and separate content from style (making the long overdue move to a CSS based layout).
Techniques/Technologies Used
xHTML1.0, CSS2, sIFR, microformats, Google Maps (Ajax), Web Stats, Semantic Coding, Progressive Enhancement.
