What is it?
This is a subtle form of Osteopathic diagnosis and treatment that uses very gentle manipulative pressure at various points throughout the body.
Cranial Osteopathy can help with a wide variety of conditions. In infants and children it can treat birth traumas, colic, digestive problems, insomnia, persistent coughs, colds, glue ear and hyperactivity.
In adults it can treat physical trauma (e.g. whiplash), back, neck and headaches, certain digestive problems, sinus problems, stress and insomnia.
Treatment normally consists of a variety of techniques to encourage normal functioning of the body. Advice about rest, exercise and possible lifestyle changes will be given. Your Osteopath will advise you on the frequency and interval of treatment.
How does it work?
The Osteopath is feeling for very subtle rhythms that occur in all body tissues, referred to as the ‘cranial rhythm’. It takes many years of training for the Osteopath to feel these rhythms. Often concentrating on the head (cranium) and tailbone (sacrum), the Osteopath can detect accumulated stresses in the body. These are thought to occur due to dysfunction of previously stated body functions many disease states, physical and emotional trauma.
