I had my first lessons in the Alexander Technique in 1992 while I was working as a professional contemporary dancer. I had been performing for six years and was aware that I was at risk of burnout and injury; I also felt the need to broaden my range of movement.
I realised that most of the dancers I admired had at some stage studied the technique so I started having a weekly lesson. These lessons were a revelation, a wonderful process of discovery that transformed my dancing and had a profound impact on my everyday life, so much so that I was inspired to study for three years to qualify as a teacher.
I now teach the technique full-time in Greenwich, Kentish Town and the City. I also teach workshops and give talks on the technique.
