What is it?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over thousands of years as part of the traditional medicine of China, Japan and other Eastern countries. The earliest records of Acupuncture date back over two thousand years and today there are over three million practitioners worldwide. The practice of Acupuncture is thought to have begun with the discovery that the stimulation of specific areas on the skin affects the functioning of certain organs of the body.
How does it work?
Acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points on the body depending on the diagnosis. The points follow specific paths along the body and have therapeutic effects.
In Western terms, it is increasingly recognised that it works by stimulating the nervous system in such a way that the body's natural healing chemicals are released to restore the balance and heal or relieve the condition.
